Celebration of longevity

The ceremony to celebrate longevity is called “Toshiiwai”. The 61st year of the cycle is called kanreki. The Chinese zodiac comes full circle in 60 years and returns to the beginning of the year, which means that the calendar returns to the beginning.
Other anniversaries are called Koki (70 years old), Kiju (77 years old), Sanju (80 years old), Beiju (88 years old), Sotsuju (90 years old), Hakuju (99 years old), and Jouju (100 years old).
In these years, we offer thanks and joy to the kami for a successful life.
