Guide to Grand fire festival

The grand fire festival is a traditional Japanese fire ritual held in mid-January.
People bring New Year’s decorations, old talismans, and calligraphy (Kakizome) to the shrine to be burned in a sacred fire.
It is held every year on 15 January. 8:00 – 14:00
*Fires are extinguished at 14:00.
Burnable items
Good luck charms, omamori, omikuji, lucky charms such as hamaya and New Year decorations, beginning calligraphy, etc.
Non-burnable items
Dolls, stuffed animals, photographs, account books, etc.
Notes
The altar is burned after prayers are offered (first fee from ¥5000).
Please do not place the altar directly into the fire. If you cannot come on the day, please bring the altar to the shrine office in advance.
